Mount Wutai

Mount Wutai is located in the northwest of Shanxi and is one of the four sacred Buddhist Mountains in China. lt has five terrace-like peaks, hence the name Wutai. For hundreds of yeas, Mount Wutai has been Chinese Buddhism's most sacred natural landmark mainly because it was the home of Manjusri, the Bodhisattva of wisdom, where he taught Buddhism. As the most trusted aide of Sakyamuni, the founder of Buddhism, he drew emperors here on pilgrimage. Furthermore, Mount Wutai is China's only holy mountain where both Chinese Buddhism and Tibetan Lamaism are practiced.
