Taiyuan, is the capital city of Shanxi province, which is the center of political, economic and culture. Many places of culture interest are spread along the Fenhe River and nearby mountains, forming scenic spots such as: Jinci Temple, an ancient Chinese garden with a Song Dynasty structure; Buddhist Grottoes on TianLongshan Mountain; the ancient walled city of Pingyao; Zhenguo Temple, and other places of historic interest and scenic beauty that are all national treasures. Winter is long, dry and cold with the average temperature below freezing; summer is with high temperatures and much rain. The temperature in July is about 21 to 26 degrees Celsius. Spring is short and dry with much wind and sand. Autumn is short, but warm with less rain. The annual average temperature is about minus 4 to 14 degrees Celsius. The annual rainfall is about 400 to 650 mm, but unevenly distributed.
