Yancheng is an ancient city. As early as the 4th year of West Han Dynasty (119 BC), the emperor set Yandu County here. At that time, there were salt making sites and salt rivers everywhere. The word "du" means river for salt transportation in Chinese. In the year 411 AD, the emperor An of East Jin Dynasty changed its name to Yancheng, because there were salt making sites all around the city. Yancheng city is a green plain.
