The construction of the People's Theater started in 1952 and completed in Jan. 1953. The theater was built on the ruin of Qiushantang with the investment of provincial government. It opened on lunar new year's day of that year. Facing the west, the theater occupied 2,200 M2. It is a two-storey building. There are 287 seats upstairs while 1,037 seats in total. National and provincial artistic groups have performed in it. It is a main site of performance for both professional and amateurish groups in Yancheng. |
